Through the Marsh Original Oil Painting

Description

An original oil painting of a mysterious marshland disappearing into distant fog. Topped with a big wild blue and cloudy sky created using one of my favourite landscape painting techniques.

Most of my landscapes develop along the journey theme. I’m imagining myself moving through the landscape from the foreground to the distant background. I guess I’m on a mission to somewhere. This helps me a lot when naming a piece. This one was easy, I’m walking ‘through the marsh’.

A sense of mystery is my main goal. The distant rain-drenched woods disappearing into the fog. Prompting the question “What’s through there?”.

I really like what I managed to achieve with a big brush here. For this technique, it’s all about loading up the brush and going for it but pausing and waiting to spot some areas of texture and color that you simply cannot touch again. That happened a lot in this painting and felt great!

Stuart Davies, the British artist working in France was a huge inspiration for cloud technique, but also the attitude. A “just go for it” slap of encouragement is always refreshing.

Bringing the white of the sky down and dragging it around in the horizon really helped create a moody, rainy mist like perspective.

Pigment:
Payne’s Grey, Yellow ochre, Titanium White, French Ultramarine, Cobalt blue, Liquin, big brushes, and a small scratching stick!

Material:
Painted on triple gesso 3/4 inch plywood I rescued from some staging. 29.5 x 25 inches.

Hanging:
To hang I have attached screws and super-strong coated wire, but this could easily be removed and a frame used if preferred.

You’ll know it’s real when you receive it because you will be able to see up close all the brush strokes I made creating it.
